A table

Josep Guinovart.

Guinovart's entire artistic career shows a close relationship with food, and in a special way, in the field of painting in which there is a marked tendency towards the use of food iconography (sardines, wheat, eggs, etc.) . Food is one of the themes or recurrent aspects in the work of this artist and, however, has been little treated by historians, critics or curators.

The exhibition brings together some of the most representative pieces of this unique relationship through a journey through the different disciplines with which the artist had greater contact -such as painting, sculpture or drawing-, but also with a support material unusual, such as dishes, pans, glasses ... To this is added the value of the exhibition site, since the Fundació Espai Guinovart is where the Agramunt market used to be. For this reason, some key documents of the old site, which in the nineties became the cultural center it is today, can be consulted.

In these works we see how the artist transforms food and makes them act as symbols subject to a context and a territory. In this way, the culinary appears as representation, and it is here where the different ingredients or culinary objects are resignified. Through food a meaning is given that, without being the food in itself, it is represented in it; this is the case of the analogy that Guinovart establishes between the egg and life. In this way, in the multiple pieces in which the artist makes use of food, we see how, through these, there is a space for interpretation, play and reflection on the most important aspects of human life.

The exhibition is accompanied by a publication in which different agents directly or subtly related to art and food have collaborated, such as the professor of aesthetics Gerard Vilar (UAB), the also professor and art critic Joan Maria Minguet (UAB) or the creator of the food design Martí Guixé. Emerging voices are also part of the project, such as the illustrator Santiago Gómez, the doctoral candidate and member of El Bullilab Yaiza Bocos or the culinary guide Blanca Alumbreros. The publication - available on the website of the Fundació Guinovart - rehearses, talks and creates new places of contact with the artist's work.

The food and its furnishings have a place in an exhibition in which the interpretations become more important than ever, as well as the different layers that constitute the story of each piece and that offer a privileged place to look from the culinary vision.
