En volum.

Josep Guinovart.

The dictionary tells us that volume is the portion of space occupied by a body, and Guinovart fills this space with sculptures. It was in the 1940s that he began to experiment with sculpture. Some of these pieces destroyed them. For him, space was always a place to invade, a place to spread, to grasp the three dimensions. This is how we present «Guinovart in volume». The exhibition exhibits sculptures of different natures, combinations of forms and materials that express the interior, an energetic language that is outsourced.

The exhibition presents the different ways in which the artist worked the three-dimensionality. A small sample of visual art shows the volume timidly; They were the first pieces of this dimension, which will grow larger. Among them, we find the Lorquian guitars, a collection of various forms that relates the lyrical admiration the artist had for the poet with the cante jondo, which he liked, a popular music in its essence.

The iron sculptures take center stage, at the same time as they engage in dialogue with ceramics. They were unpublished in the eighties. Our culture was represented in volume: interior landscapes and imaginary constructions. The ceramics adds to the iron and presents the most sexual and erotic connotations of the exhibition, a part of our interior, the most intimate and personal.

There is also a forest of varied forms, alluding to symbols, fears and desires, which make an ecosystem where you can travel and feel. It is Entorn-Contorn, one of the greatest sculptural works of the artist. This installation was exhibited at the Maeght Gallery in 1976. From there he went to the Museum of Modern Art, then installed in the Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona. Finally, at the beginning of the 1990s, a part of the set was set in the Poble Espanyol; the other, in the collection of Espai Guinovart. The Look Project is facing Contorn-Contorn; These are visual forms with resonances: wood of all sizes, worked in all ways, we present visions of the world.

The space is invaded by art in volume. We discover different forms and materials: iron, ceramics and wood, which draw realities, dreams, thoughts and desires. We invite you to travel through this reality that seizes sculpture, showing the protagonist in the wide range of artistic production of Josep Guinovart.
