Joana Santamans

120 x 120 Oli sobre fusta

Joana Santamans (Barcelona, 1977) comes to Agramunt with her animal army. They are bugs with cosmopolitan airs, but impregnated with their rural environment. We could say that these beasts are like their creator: they come from nature, but they connect with the urban rhythm, which causes a balanced symbiosis.

La Joana has traveled through the Hostalets de Pierola and Esparreguera, towns spotted by Montserrat; Also for London and New York, giant cities, and installed his studio in Barcelona. These are peoples and cities with their rhythms, which have influenced their style. She is a multidisciplinary artist; the ceramics, furniture found on the street, paper and walls are welcome supports to capture their art. In this exhibition wood is the chosen material. A rabbit, a cow, a swan or a rooster are some of the protagonists who show in the foreground their good profile while watching the viewer.

The artist is always accompanied by music, an inspiring element that invites paint brushes filled with oil to paint with the wood's own waters. These sinuous forms of the material are one of the most remarkable features in their style: the dash is danced with support, but at the same time the lines of their illustrations are safe and clean, inheritance of their graphic design training.

As she says, her work can be defined as a naturalist, hopeful, meticulous, direct and disturbing. The restlessness makes him an explorer, and with this kindness he came to Agramunt, where he immediately connected with Guinovart: the same bond with nature, an environment full of stimuli and nuances, wild animals and poultry that interact with ours inner animal, perhaps domestic, perhaps wild.

So, we present this exhibition by Joana Santamans and her animal tribe.
