Josep Guinovart

L'art del llibre

Guinovart of the earthy colors of Agramunt. The artist of the blue of the Mediterranean seen from Castelldefels. The Guino who shaped the memories of his trips. Works with green and grape that connect with the world of wine ... And, also, the artist's books, his homage to literature, one of the raw materials of his knowledge. Everything is a response to your expressive needs, a whole fierce creator.

Vargas Vila, Valle Inclán, Lorca and Miguel Hernández were the first authors who demanded the attention of Josep Guinovart to enter into the world of reading. Over time they came from others who accompanied him throughout his production. He ended up becoming a place in the literary world with his artist books.

Throughout his artistic production, the book takes on prominence in different sculptures and pictorial pieces, such as The book and the shells or El árbol es un libro; Likewise, he praises writers and poems. Anyway, in "The art of the book" the protagonists are the artist's books, a little gem that Guinovart left in the publishing world.

What is an artist's book? It is a work of art developed and supervised by an editor, written by a literate and accompanied by the images of an artist. The representations have the same force as the text; That is why writer and artist are responsible from the beginning to the end of the conception of the piece, fleeing from the industrial methods of the conventional editorial field.

In most cases we can see, the illustrations are presented with prints; This is how it was shaped in Six Galician poems by Federico García Lorca. The four stations, done at four hands with the poet José Hierro, is the clearest example that there have been no barriers between lettering and drawing, but rather have been joined to explode.

The presentation format can be a folder or a manual binding; the way does not alter the content. As manipulable artworks that are, they ask a lot of care and sensibility to be read.

"The art of the book" demonstrates how the pictorial language of Josep Guinovart merges with poetic text and presents a unique work that spits on expressiveness. The exhibition, once again, highlights the wide variety of techniques, formats and themes that it has used throughout its artistic production.
