Geografies emocionals

Josep Guinovart.

Museu de Montserrat, a la Sala Daura

The show focuses on Guinovart's trips, in his gaze on spaces and cities around the world, and as certain landscapes have left a deep imprint on the soul of the artist

Emotional geographies by Josep Guinovart. It will be made up of a careful selection of fifty pieces by this Barcelona artist, from the Espai Guinovart Foundation of Agramunt, from the Josep Guinovart Graphic Arts Center, as well as other private collections.

Maria Guinovart, daughter of the artist, and Yolanda Alonso are the curators of an exhibition with a selection that brings us to the exterior and interior journey of one of the most important figures of contemporary Catalan art. It will be the first time that the Museum of Montserrat receives a sample of work by Josep Guinovart.

Emotional geographies focuses on Guinovart's travels, in his gaze on spaces and cities around the world, and as certain landscapes have left a deep imprint on the soul of the artist. These trips even turned the physical paths into emotional paths through which Guinovart traveled for a lifetime, visiting them and revisiting them years later along their path to ÍtacAgramunt.

The exhibition presented at the Museu de Montserrat aims to be a journey through all those places that marked a before and after in the career of Guinovart. On this trip through the different rooms, you can see how, little by little, the artist is stripped of academicism to acquire his own language, his own voice, from the first paintings of 1940 - figurative clarifications - , that mark the starting point of a route that allows the visitor to see the plastic evolution of Guinovart throughout his life. Agramunt, the Basque Country, Paris ... Every step that moves away from its hometown brings it closer to new geographies and invites you to experiment with new materials.

Josep Guinovart's Emociones geográficas, will be shown in the Daura Gallery of the Museum of Montserrat from February 5 to May 22, 2016.

And Les Variations Rocamora, until May 1 in the Art Space Pere Pruna

And at the Pere Pruna Art Gallery of the Montserrat Museum you can see, until May 1, the exhibition by the artist from Tortosí Jaume Rocamora, entitled Les Variacions Rocamora, curated by Daniel Giralt-Miracle. In this exhibition, Rocamora conveys the need to express itself with the most refined geometry, which has never been deprived of doing a warm, attractive work formally and materially; and this is achieved using cardboards, fabrics or paper pulp that move away from the extreme minimalisms that characterize synthetic materials. Where it shows more this warmth will be in the embossed prints that can be seen in the sample. This procedure has been used by Jaume Rocamora for years and, motivated by a suprematist philosophy, the artist has been refining and quintessing it, as can be seen in the pieces presented in Montserrat.
