Escolteu Guinovart

Josep Guinovart.

Curated by Bàrbara Bayarri and Anaïs Muñoz

«Escolteu, Guinovart» is an exhibition that takes on the title of the poem that Pere Quart dedicated to Josep Guinovart, and that we rescue to propose to the spectator a body, but also poetic listening. It is a constellation of works that pivot around the time of the Civil War, during which Guinovart had to flee, first of all, from Barcelona, and, later, due to the bombing, of Agramunt. Therefore, the permanent work of La Cabana, which remains in the central space of the room, represents a special relevance in this proposal and represents the refuge that his family and himself built precariously in the countryside.

With this exhibition, we want to ask about the line («love»), the phobos («fear») and the kratos («power»), based on the experience of Guinovart and his people, Agramunt. We want to go through the emotions that have been part of all the stories, of the life of each person and of each community. What does it mean to have to flee today? What forms of violence do we suffer? How do we weave affections? What does it mean to take care of ourselves, in our context? What relationships do we build with power, at the moment? What frightens us or makes us vibrate?

We propose as a meeting place to be listened to, because they can not be defined, they have no proprietor or pre-established limitations, since it is an experience that overflows the object, the word, the work. The perception that emanates when listening compromises the whole body, everything we are, and drives us towards action, towards something creative. It is a being in a specific space and time, here and now, creating the present moment we share.

The selected works of Josep Guinovart make us think of this place of anybody, or, rather, in the places that are of all of us. Beyond the brushstrokes, the letters that often participate in the paintings, formalities or technique, these pieces open spaces of light, under the guidance of blacks and grays, as cracks that make our reality come true from the yours From the experience of exile, from fear and courage that is played in the field of uncertainty, of what has to come but that is unknown; from the root of memory and the community that creates it, weakening or becoming stronger according to the way to bring it to the presence; From the creative action, we hear Guinovart.
